My Hales are a big mystery. Dewey's great-grandfather was born somewhere in TN or KY about 1825 but no record of that or his marriage to Nancy Brooks has been found. I have not been able to locate him on any census records prior to 1860. His disappearance is even more mysterious. Family tradition says he went to town (circa 1877) to be a witness at a murder trial and was never seen again.
The couple on the right is Dudley Jackson and Minnie (Purvis) Hale taken just before they left Oklahoma for Canada
The couple on the left and four of the children are unknown. A family story states that they were neighbours.
The sprawling boy in the front is Admiral Dewey Hale.
