Tom Welling, Maggie Grace, and
Selma Blair star in this remake of the 1979 John Carpenter
original. The movie is from the director of 'Stigmata'. These
facts alone should have made this movie an instant hit. It may
well top the box office this week, but not in my books. The
acting is superb, but the dialogue and premise are terrible.
According to
this site, "One
hundred years ago, in a thick, eerie fog off the rocky coast of
Northern California, a horrible shipwreck occured under
mysterious circumstances. Now, shrouded in darkness, the ghosts
of the long-dead sailors have returned from their watery graves
to exact their bloody, merciless revenge."
Does this premise make any sense to you? I've seen the movie,
and I don't even understand it! The film has a few good shock
sequences, but just when you think the film is about to get
good, it disappoints. The only two positive points I can find in
this movie is the acting and the special effects. I do not
recommend this film.
