How it all started...

It all started several years ago after Ian spent 4 months living and working in Santiago, Chile, and John spent a holiday in Mexico and Colombia. Shortly after returning, both were missing the latin lifestyle, and after one particularly cold, ugly winter day, John spurted out: "That's it! I'm gonna buy a Harley and ride to Colombia!"

Ian laughed at first, but the more they thought about it, the better the idea seemed. After finally deciding to do it, they planned and saved up, left their jobs, kissed their loved ones goodbye and finally bit the bullet in September 1999.

Mission...

Our mission is to see as much of latin america as we possibly can in one year. We have made many international friends and plan to visit all that we can on our trip. The purpose for the journey is not merely to reach a destination, but to appreciate the journey itself.

Each country has its own merits, some with hidden treasures, others well known throughout the world. Most important of all though, are the people of each region and we plan to meet and talk with as many as possible. All of these countries have been through a great deal of turmoil throught their histories, and we have all read stories, both good and bad, but always intruiging about every latin american country. Our plan is to expose ourselves (and our friends back home) as much as possible to a culture different enough from our own, meet new friends, visit old friends, and see some of the world's most amazing and incredible places. We also hope to dispel some misconceptions of this region.

Along the way, we hope to be able to volunteer our services to those in need, maybe teach some english, and do as much of the journey as possible on our chosen mode of transportation - the motorcycle. On motorcycles we hope to be able to see more of the country than is possible by plane, train, or bus, and hopefully be a little closer to the people, since we can stop at anytime we choose to find out about the region, or visit some out-of-the-way destination.

Our goal is to visit as many countries as possible, including the U.S., Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and, finally Chile. Our final destination is Santiago, Chile, but we hope to make it as far south as Tierra del Fuego, Argentina.
