CP 6166 was built at CPR's Angus Shops and entered service in June 1905. Originally numbered CP 2166, it was renumbered CP6166 in September 1912. It was sold by the CPR in July 1947 to the Manitoba and Saskatchewan Coal company. It operated near Bienfait, Saskatchewan for almost 20 years until retired in1967.
It remained on display in North Battleford until it was moved to it's current location, the Saskatchewan Western Development Museum in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1994.

The restoration of the tender is almost complete. The locomotive itself still requires a lot more work. An estimated $32,000 is required to complete the work. So far $18,000 has been raised. The locomotive will be restored to its appearance around 1910, which is the period of "Boomtown" is recreating in the rest of this indoor museum. Being circa 1910, it will therefore carry the number CP2166, which was it's number at that time.

Both number plate and original builder's plate are still attached to the locomotive.
