Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.Wikipedia is a Web-based, multi-lingual, "copyleft" encyclopedia designed to be read and changed by anyone. It is collaboratively edited and maintained by thousands of users via the wiki software, an opensource program first started by Ward Cunningham, and it is hosted and supported by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation. In addition to typical encyclopedia entries, Wikipedia includes information more often associated with almanacs, gazetteers, and specialist magazines, as well as coverage of current events.


French CD-ROM Encyclopedias

There are now four French computer encyclopedias available: "Encarta" (since 97) from Microsoft, "Hachette" (since
spring 98), "Compton’s" (since autumn 98) from TLC-Edusoft (The Learning Company) and "The Canadian Encyclopedia World Edition" (since autumn 99) bilingual from McClelland & Stewart. A French immersion student
using an English encyclopedia tends to use his/her existing French vocabulary to translate information. Using a French
encyclopedia tends to expand the student’s French vocabulary.
