Le Voile Déchiré by Carmen Bin Laden
Carmen Bin Laden is the ex-wife of one of Osama Ben Laden's many half brothers. Ms. Bin Laden, the daughter of a Swiss father and Iranian mother, had been raised in Geneva and spent more than a year in the United States with her new husband. Ms. Bin Laden, her husband and infant daughter moved to the Ben Laden compound in Jeddahh, Saudi Arabia. "I was suffocating with rage" she write in her memoir, which became an immediate bestseller when it was released recently in Europe. The book, Le Voile Déchiré (The Torn Veil), is not yet available in English (as of March 2004). "It was simply out of the question that my daughters were going to be raised in that kind of society" says the former Carmen Ben Laden. She now spells her name Bin Laden  to dissociate herself with her ex-husband's family.
