This website is designed to tell you about a humanitarian grassroots project focused on sending medical and school supplies from Saskatoon, Canada to Tshelanyemba, Zimbabwe.

Our goal is to raise enough money to procure and ship a 20-40 foot shipping container of medical equipment and school supplies to the people in Tshelanyemba.. The medical equipment is destined for the Tshelanyemba hospital and the school supplies are for the schools in Tshelanyemba and the nearby villages of Sun Yet Sen and Mazwi. We are working with a number of people to gather the supplies to fill the container and this work is progressing well. Our current and most pressing challenge is to raise the money for the cost of shipping the container.

Matebeleland South is one of the poorest areas in Zimbabwe , a country beset by hyper-inflation (150,000%),  80% unemployment, and political turmoil.  In addition to the unstable economic and political situations, years of insufficient rains and subsequent poor harvests have created food shortages.  The hospital also copes with scarce fuel supplies, and long periods of no electricity or telephone service. Beyond these issues, medical supplies and drugs are virtually non-existent.

April 5:

This note is to give you an update on the Zimbabwe Container Project and to say a HUGE THANK YOU for your part in making it a reality!    The container was literally packed to the rafters, practically bursting!!! with all sorts of amazing things from a generator to an incubator to loads of syringes, bandages, gauze, and all sorts of other medical stuff that the hospital had on their wish-list along with over a ton (literally) of paper, a whole pile of pens, pencils, rulers, over 2000 library books, and the list goes on and on, not an inch of space was wasted thanks to the skilful packing crew J   The container is in transit to Mozambique by sea then by truck to Bulawayo.  There’s a clearing agent in Bulawayo who will help us get it thru customs then it will be on its way by truck to Tshelanyemba.  It should arrive in Tshelanyemba in May when I plan on being there.  J   Who would have thought that this brainwave would have come to reality…it’s been amazing and inspiring to see so many people pull together to making this container happen…THANKS HEAPS for that, as I could not do this alone!  I’ve learnt a lot thru this project and know that the items we sent in the container will go a long way in not only physically helping the people of Tshelanyemba but also in reinforcing that they are not forgotten.  THANK YOU again for being a part of it.   Sylvia
