Thank you for expressing an interest in the Motorcycle Safety Course. Join the thousands of riders on Vancouver Island and enjoy weekend getaways, evening dinner rides, join a riding club (and meet new friends) or just plain solo riding to wherever your heart takes you!

Although riding a motorcycle can be a fun and adventurous event, improper motorcycle care and control can lead to a dangerous situation. With proper training and the right attitude, riding a motorcycle can be a pleasurable experience.

All students must possess a valid Class 6 Learner's Permit or a valid Class 8 Learner's Permit prior to training. It is therefore important to obtain your learner's permit as soon as possible. Study the "Road Sense for Riders" manual which is available at all Driver Services Centres.

Class 6 Learner's permit holders must wait 30 days before eligibility to attempt the Road Test, while Class 8 Learner's permit holders must wait 12 months before eligibility to attempt the Road Test. The Road test will be conducted by ICBC.

Along with the motorcycles, we also provide helmets, gloves, and rain gear. It is the student's responsibility to provide appropriate footgear that protects the ankles, long pants (jeans), and a jacket appropriate for the weather. This will be discussed in the theory portion. Students may use their own helmets, as long as they are not of the "beanie" type, and they meet or exceed DOT standards.

MSC Course: This is the full course and consists of 10 hours theory, 10 hours parking lot practical exercises, and 8 hours on the road.

The cost is $638.00 + $87.00 HST = $725.00.

See schedule.

MSTC Course: This is the motorcycle skills test course and consists of 10 hours theory and 10 hours parking lot exercises.

The cost is $504.17 + $45.83 HST = $550.00.

See schedule.

We are an ICBC Approved Motorcycle Skills Assessment facility.

The Motorcycle Skills Test (MST) waiting period for the Class 6 Learner's permit or Class 8 Learner's permit will be waived by completing either the MSC Course or the MSTC course. This assessment will be conducted by Comox Valley Driving School.

Upon completion of the parking lot exercises (Sunday at 12:30pm) of either course we will conduct the "Motorcycle Skills Assessment". Successful qualification of the MSA will allow the student to ride on his/her own on any roadway. The student will not need a supervisor and may travel at any legal and safe speed. The student may not carry passengers or ride at night until she/he qualifies on the Road Test

To ensure your spot on either course, a deposit of $125.00 will be required. The deposit may be paid by personal cheque (must be sent at least three weeks before course start date), Cash, Mastercard, VISA, or Certified cheque. Should you not be able to attend the course, the deposit will be forfeited for the lost training spot. Again, this deposit is non-refundable. The balance is due on the first training evening and must be paid by cash, Mastercard, VISA, Money order, or Certified cheque. NO personal cheques.

Attendance at all training lessons leading up to the Motorcycle Skills Assessment is mandatory. There are no refunds for incomplete courses or missed lessons. Any student not being able to complete the program on his/her original course may book extra time (one-on-one) with Comox Valley Driving School. The timing of these lessons will be determined by Comox Valley Driving School. The student's remaining hours will be divided in half to determine the amount of one-on-one hours available without incurring extra fees. Should the student require additional time, one-on-one fees will be $50.00 per hour ($55.00 + $5.00 HST = $60.00).

Should the student wish to come back in a group course, there will be a $250.00 fee ($229.17 + $20.83 HST = $250.00). Availability for returning to a course will be determined on the Wenesday leading up to the course, depending on numbers of enrolled students.

Students who have completed all training and require extra road ride time may join in a Monday road ride (5 hours) for $150.00 ($137.50 + $12.50 HST = $150.00).

Our motorcycles will be available for the Road Test (Tue and Wed - as available) for those students who complete the MSC course. Students will also receive one hour of one-on-one instruction just prior to the Road Test. There will be a fee of $60.00 ($55.00 + $5.00 GST = $60.00). This fee will only be collected on the day of the road test and must be cash only.
