A Bit of History

This web page initially began as a series of pages I built for the Stitches From The Heart Quilt Guild of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.  They outlined one specific guild activity pertaining to past and upcoming quilt shows.  After doing it myself for the past 4 years I have since decided to let someone else take on the challenging task of providing web coverage for the guilds activities.  Those web pages - what you are currently viewing have become a part of my personal pages.  Now is a good time to tell you a little of the history of Stitches From The Heart Quilt Guild.

About 1990/91 a few ladies who shared the same ideals and visions identified a void in our local sewing community.  They gathered together as a group who shared the love of quilting.  Their goals were to

        Guild Pin
promote and share all aspects of the art in the community.  Stitches From the Heart Quilt Guild was formed.

The group grew on a steady basis from about 6-8 members at that time to present day about 150 members strong.  They are a diverse lot covering all age groups, both sexes and travel from all outlying areas including those in the United States. Ever present, not forgotten and much appreciated are the supporting family members who make untold sacrifices for the good of the art and even come and help set up, take video and participate in other capacities.

Today Stitches From The Heart Quilt Guild is just over 10 years old. It is a non profit organization that boasts many accomplishments in it's young life.  It has hosted many highly skilled guests and teachers; has many sharing and caring programs such as quilts and hats for cancer patients and elderly shut ins; has undertaken three successful quilt shows with the fourth planned for 2003; has produced it's own newsletter; has fostered many new friendships and working relationships; has educated the public regarding the art and all it's tools; hosts it's own library, and; members of the group make every effort to travel and participate with other like groups.

Stitches From The Heart Quilt Guild has been lucky over the years to be graced with a most qualified and eager executive. Take the time to browse through some of the past guild & show activities and stay tuned for more on the upcoming quilt show for 2003.  If you wish to make inquiries regarding the guild or their activities please contact Leonna Cere-Burn.
