After the Roman Wall, we ascended to the summit plateau, a football
field sized flat landscape on the top of the mountain. Making our
way across this stretch of snow, we approached a small "hill" on it's eastern
side. This small mound is the summit proper. Other climbers
from other parts of the mountain were just coming down as we approached.
We exchanged congratulatory remarks before continuing on our way.
A few moments later and an easy 50 foot ascent up the mound....a successful
summit!
I think that, given that we were a team of eleven strangers of varying experience and physical shape, we made good time that morning. By 9:25 a.m. we were standing at the summit of the mountain, relishing in our accomplishment. We snapped a few pictures and, after a few snacks and water, began our descent. All told, we spent about 20 minutes on the top. |
