Colette Balcaen, Multidisciplinary Artist - This activity is based on the notions of ritual, repetition, relationships, and the commonality of mankind (Nous sommes tous identiques à la fin de la journée !). I chose varied shades of red yarn, purchased in bulk, from discount stores, as a symbol of human blood, human effort, and the vital forces, that link mankind. The traditional act of knitting and sewing brings a sense of domesticity and femininity, to the whole endeavour.
