Areas Listed.
Usage changes over time. I encourage you to use discretion in
locating and using the locations listed.
Net
Nude.
Net Nude has listings from all parts of the world (plus site reports)
but they are fairly sparse.
CANCUN: Playa
Naturel.
From their web site: "Playa Naturel is located on the Mayan Riviera
about 70 miles south of Cancun airport on Tankah beach just north of
Tulum and south of Akumal. Tankah 4 is a secluded and largely
undisturbed bay along Mexico's Caribbean coast and a perfect setting
for this naturist resort. Playa Naturel is a small standalone retreat
w/ 4 lodging units and a maximum of 10 guests. They offer a clothing
optional environment with a private beach area that is fenced on
either end for privacy." Day-use is also available. [Nov/99]
CANCUN: Caribbean Beach Club. --- Closed.
CANCUN: Hidden
Beach Resort Au Naturel Club.
Clothing-optional. Adults only. Singles welcome. Swim-up suites
available. From the website: "Located just one hour south of Cancun
Airport, Hidden Beach Resort lies on a stretch of white sand beach
offering spectacular vistas of the Mexican Caribbean Sea." For more
photos, click here.[Dec/2005]
GoBeach.
This site has excellent information on St. Martin/St. Maarten and
other islands, though it is not a clothing-optional site.
SAINT MARTIN: Baie Orientale
(Orient Bay). [Trip
report]
Saint Martin is the French side of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten and
Orient Beach is legendary. Most nude use occurs at the south end of
the beach in front of Club Orient naturist resort, but nudity is
allowed everywhere on the beach (though, at times, the hotel at the
north end of the beach has tried to prevent nudity in front of their
hotel). Orient Beach is a busy place, with restaurants, hotels, and
water sports from one end of the beach to the other. Visitors to the
beach can park at Club Orient or behind any of the other restaurants
and hotels. [May/99]
SAINT MARTIN: Club Orient Naturist Resort.
Located at the south end of Orient Bay, Club Orient offers
cabin-style accomodations (with kitchens), a small shop, and a
restaurant. Clothing is optional throughout the resort (including the
restaurant) and on the beach. Cameras are prohibitted on the beach.
Small sailboats and catamarans can be rented at the beach shack, or
you can book aboard the clothing-optional sailing/snorkelling
excursion. Club Orient probably won't be your choice if you are on a
tight budget, but you can save quite a bit by cooking your own meals.
Dining out is quite expensive on the island. [May/99]
Comment: We snorkelled near Club Orient, but saw little of
interest. [Nov/96]
SAINT MARTIN: Ilet Pinel (Pinel Island).
"There is a CO beach on the north shore of the island. The
swimming is pretty good, with easy entry on the left end. The bottom
there is sandy with lots of broken coral from boats dropping anchor.
The sand on the beach is white and clean (please keep it that way!),
and the beach is usually deserted or sparsely populated. The people
who go to Pinel tend not to be the cruise ship day trippers, and many
of them are French trying to get away from the bustle of the resort
areas."
"There are two barbecue stands, a boutique and a bar on the side
facing St. Martin. The island has no residents (except for a couple
who built a charming vacation 'shack' just off the north shore beach
in amongst the foliage). The island is a French national park, so
please take care of it and don't litter."
Pictures: http://www.orientbeach.com/pinel/
shows some pictures of Pinel. The 'Deserted Beach' and the
'Beachcomber's Hut' are the CO beach and the 'shack',
respectively.
Directions: "As you get off the ferry boat from Orient ($5 for
a 1/4 mile ride out and back) or Cul-de-sac, angle to your right and
go behind the barbecue stand and up over the hill toward the left,
heading northeast. Approach the beach at about its middle. Otherwise,
take the narrow trail (shorter but harder to find) between the
boutique and the 2nd barbecue stand up over the hill." [Reggie,
Jan/2001]
SAINT MARTIN: Baie Rouge (Red Bay). [Trip
report]
A small, beautiful, quiet beach with lovely sand and good
swimming and snorkelling. Umbrellas and chairs (and sometimes food)
are available at the entrance to the beach, but this is the
clothed/topfree area. Nudists should head left (west) when they reach
the beach. How far you have to go to encounter nude bathers depends
on how bold they were. We found that the first person to go nude
essentially established the boundary for the day. Beautiful rock
formations on the east side of the beach offer interesting
snorkelling if the waters are calm. [Nov/96]
Directions: From Marigot, head west for about 10 minutes, past
Baie Nettle (Nettle Bay). As the road curves to the left and heads
inland to cross to the south coast of the island, watch for signs
indicating Baie Rouge. Park in the designated lot and follow the
short trail to the beach.
Directions (from Maho): Head west on the main road to a point
4 km past the French border and watch for the sign.
SAINT MARTIN: Baie aux Prunes (Plum Bay). [Trip
report]
It's been reported that Baie aux Prunes sees sporadic nude use,
but we didn't really feel that it was worth the trip.
[Nov/96]
Directions: from the road between Baie Rouge and Baie Longue,
head west toward the point.
SAINT MARTIN: Baie Longue (Long Bay). [Trip
report]
Located between Baie Rouge and Cupecoy Beach, just north of the
French/Dutch border, Baie Longue is 1.5 km of wide, sandy beach. Head
right when you reach the beach. You'll probably walk quite a way to
find nudists, but they'll probably be there. Getting into the water
can be tricky at this beach because at the edge of the water it is
solid (and slippery) rather than sandy, but swimming and snorkelling
are good (but beware of rough seas and strong undertows).
[Nov/96]
Directions: From Maho (the airport) head west past Cupecoy
Beach and across the French border. At the top of the hill, turn left
on a paved road marked Baie Longue. Turn right just before the
entrance to La Samanna Hotel, and continue to the parking area.
Follow the short trail to the beach. At the beach, turn right (west)
and head towards the end of the beach.
SINT MAARTEN: Cupecoy Beach. [Trip
report] [Photo]
Probably the most spectacular of St. Martin's beaches, Cupecoy
features beautiful reddish sandstone cliffs and rock formations. The
sand and the snorkelling are excellent. The first beach is just past
the parking lot and is sometimes nude, sometimes clothed---have a
look from the top of the cliff. The main beach is a bit further along
and is much more spacious and is always clothing-optional. The first
beach is easily viewed from the top of cliff, so if you are worried
about being seen by sightseers, you should probably continue to the
far end of the main beach. [Nov/96]
Directions: From Maho (the airport) head west for five
minutes, past the Cupecoy Beach Hotel, and turn left after the last
hotel (just as the road turns right and uphill). After parking your
car, follow the well used trails to the right (west).
CUBA: Cayo
Largo.
Lily and Normand's site dedicated to the small island of Cayo
Largo. Filled with information on hotels, beaches, and nudism.
CUBA: Cayo
Santa Maria.
Located on the 13 km long islet of Cayo Santa Maria, Sol
CSM is an all-inclusive non-nudist resort with a beautiful nudist
beach at the west end of the main beach. You should probably request
a bungalow at that end of the resort. Alternatively, you can stay at
the adjacent (and somewhat cheaper) Melia
CSM -- another all-inclusive hotel owned by the same corporation.
The drawback is a longer walk to the clothing-optional beach. Kids
are welcome and accommodated at both hotels.
BONAIRE: Sorobon
Beach Resort.
Clothing-optional througout the resort. Family-friendly. From the
website: "Unspoiled. Unhurried. Unclothed. Unforgettable."
[Dec/2005]
JAMAICA, Negril: Firefly
Cottages.
Clothing-optional. Family friendly. For more photos, click here.[Dec/2005]
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, Playa Grande:
Eden
Bay.
All-inclusive nudist resort. Adults only. Singles welcome. Nudity is
permitted and encouraged throughout the resort. Day visitors are
welcome (for US$65/person). [Dec/2005]
SYDNEY, NSW: Samurai Beach.

Australia if not the southern hemisphere... But then I'm

FRANCE: France
Naturism.
A listing of clothing-optional beaches in France.
GREECE: Cap'n
Barefoot's Naturist Guide.
This site has listings from all parts of Greece (plus site reports).
It is fairly extensive and well laid out. The information is arranged
by Island.
SANTORINI: Vlychada Beach.
[Trip report]
[Map]
Vlychada (vla-ha-da) is probably the best of the beaches on
Santorini. Follow the signs into Vlychada and when you see water,
park and walk to the right, past the umbrellas and chairs. A polite
distance (50m or so) later nude use begins and stretches for about a
kilometer until, rounding a point, an inhabited area is encountered.
For the entire distance the beach is backed by spectacular cliffs,
eroded by the wind. A couple of roads reach the beach through gaps in
the cliff, but we never looked for how to find these roads. Vlychada
features soft sand and good snorkeling (though you have to swim out a
ways). Almost everybody was nude the day we were there---all 12 or 15
people! It is best to avoid this beach on windy days due to blowing
sand. [Sept/98]
SANTORINI: Red Beach. [Trip
report] [Photo]
[Photo -
snorkeling] [Map]
Red Beach is very nice, but difficult to get to. The World Guide
described Red Beach itself as a clothing-optional beach, but
popularity must have pushed the nudists to the next beach. From the
archaeological site at Akrotiri, follow the signs to Red Beach. Drive
if you can, but walk if you must. When you reach the end of the road,
park and follow the trail around the point and then down to the beach
below. The area below the red cliffs is packed with umbrellas and
people. You might be able to use the far end of the beach nude, but
I'm not sure. About halfway down the beach (just past the umbrellas)
follow a trail back up to the top of the cliff and follow the cliff
top until you see another smaller beach (I don't know if it has a
name) and follow the trails down. Although Red Beach has good sand,
the nude beach has very little. But that turns out not to be a
problem because the beach is covered with a soft mat of dead sea
plants. The snorkeling is good. Most people were nude the day we were
there. [Sept/98]
SANTORINI: Perissa Beach -- no nude use.
Perissa is a beautiful beach and was once (10-15 years ago) a nude
beach (watch the movie "Summer Lovers"!). But times change and
Perissa is now lined with hotels. There is no longer any nude use,
but Perivolos is within walking distance if you choose to stay
here. But, be warned, it is a long walk.
SANTORINI: Perivolos Beach. [Trip
report] [Photo]
[Map]
Perivolos Beach is a continuation of Perissa Beach. At the south
end of Perivolos, away from the hotels, nude use occurs regularly. A
road (just south of the road to YaYa Beach Club) leads right to the
beach. It is often possible to see nude people on both sides of this
parking area and, also, quite a distance to the right (south).
Getting into the water is a bit easier in the vicinity of the road
than the area to the right. The sand is almost black and gets very
hot. Snorkeling is good close to shore. Expect a lot of non-nudists
near the end of the road. Fewer as you head further south.
On several occasions I also saw individuals (men twice; a woman once) who were nude (I think) in the section between Perivolos and Perissa, where there is a short gap between the rented umbrellas. Two of them were actually using the rented lounge chairs, one wasn't. But I may have been mistaken since they were a fair distance from the road as we drove by. [Sept/98]
SANTORINI: Kamari/Monolithos. [Trip
report] [Map]
Kamari Beach is another popular tourist area (with poor
snorkeling). We searched northward, toward Monolithos, for a nude
beach. Just before Monolithos we followed a road to the beach at the
north end of a "traditional settling". In the distance one person was
nude. We laid our towels near where we parked and spent a couple of
hours there, but the sand wasn't very nice and it was difficult to
get into the water. [Sept/98]
SANTORINI: Ia. [Trip
report] [Map]
Cap'n Barefoot's guide talked of people going nude below
Ia (ee-ah), but we can't comment on that. Ia is also spelled
Oia. [Sept/98]
SANTORINI: Koloumbo Beach. [Map]
Shortly after our trip to Santorini, Cap'n Barefoot added a
listing for Koloumbo Beach at the north end of the island, east of
Ia. See Cap'n Barefoot's guide for more details. [July/98]
SANTORINI: Other possibilities. [Trip
report] [Map]
There is a big area between Monolithos and Ia which has practically
no development and is probably covered with beaches. There are bound
to be some possibilities there (other than Koloumbo). We also didn't
explore the area past Akrotiri. Maps showed some beaches there.
