SHUSWAP LAKE: Houseboating.
Numerous companies offer houseboat rentals on Shuswap Lake. "July 15 to Sept.
15 is the most reliable time for houseboating in this area. Some of the secluded
bays there offer wonder opportunities for nude sunbathing. It's truly lovely
if the sun is shining. Don't go too early! You'll be disappointed." [D.G.
2000]
Note: the Okanagan Shuswap Naturist Society holds an anual houseboat trip on
this lake.

Ives Forest Service Campground
--- Nude possibilities. [Photo] (GPS: N50

A small wilderness-style Forest Service campground 30 km north of Shuswap Provincial
Park (Scotch Creek), just past St. Ives, offers some nude possibilities. Head
northeast on Squilax-Anglemont Road for about 30 km until it turns into a logging
road. The campground is right at the start of the logging road, and the rest
of the logging road is off-limits to most drivers, since you must maintain 2-way
radio contact with the logging company. This
is a really nice campground with sites right at the beach... as long as you
don't care about flush toilets and showers. And although the Scotch Creek campground
was completely full, this campground was deserted when we got there midday
(and midweek). We had lunch on the beach for a couple of hours, sunning and
swimming nude, until other people arrived. Don't know if they would have cared—it
was time for us to head back to Scotch Creek. Even if you didn't have the place
to yourself, a short walk up the shore should lead to some private spots. [July

SHUSWAP LAKE: Narrows
Village private resort. (GPS: N50

The resort accommodates up to 3 couples (no children) and is
accessible by water only. Their web site says "Quiet Seclusion with
your own beach (clothes optional)... If you like, you could spend
your entire honeymoon in bare feet or for that matter even without
any clothes at all." Some of their facilities are available to
day-use visitors. I've heard that people are often spotted jumping
naked on their floating trampoline.
Note: When I first heard about this resort in 2003, they
appeared to be targetting their website at swingers. But I no longer
get that impression from their updated website.
SALMON ARM: Nipple Point. [Photo]
[Photo] (GPS: N50 46.913 W119 10.224)
Located between the towns of Salmon Arm and Sicamous (and near
Canoe), this beach is less than 100 metres from the Trans-Canada
Highway on an Arm (Salmon Arm) of Shuswap lake.
"This is the most used nude beach in the Salmon Arm area. Informally
named Nipple Point, the beach area has been visited by my family for
about ten years and reportedly has been in nude use for at least
twice that long. The beach areas are out of sight of the highway but
viewable for the train tracks (see the caution note below). The
'crowd' varies from a few individuals or couples to a dozen or more
and textiles may occupy the same general area, seemingly without
offence. Houseboats often are 'bare' or used for skinny dipping. It
seems best to avoid families with children but there's a long stretch
of beach area available for all. I've met fellow nudists from the
local area and from Calgary to Kamloops so this area is well known
but not well publicized." [R.F., June 2002]
Directions: "From the Okanagan, head north toward Salmon Arm
on Hwy 97, 97A, and finally 97B. At it's junction with the
Trans-Canada (Hwy 1), turn east toward Canoe and Sicamous and set the
odometer to zero. Stay on Hwy 1 and pass by Canoe, with entrances to
it at 3.4, 4.7 and 5.5 km. Carry on past the Federated Co-op mill on
the left, and office on the right at 6.0 km. At 8.5 km there's a
small gravel turn out on the left which accesses Shuswap lake but is
mainly used by textiles. Carry on to 8.9 km and park in the larger
gravel turn out on the left. In the summer there are usually cars in
each of turn outs.
There's a well travelled path down the hill, across the CPR mainline,
to Shuswap Lake (about 50 or 60 metres). At the small rocky point at
the end of the trail it's best to see where the nude area is that day
as families may be at the end of the trail or houseboats may be
pulled in along the shore. Nipple Point is about 300 metres to the
right (east) and has a good stretch of pebbly beach, additionally
several small areas have been cleared of boulders creating small
pebbly beaches between the trail and Nipple Point. Small beaches also
occur to the left of the trail, back toward Canoe. Nude use can be
anywhere from just left of the trail for a 100 metres of so until
larger trees thin out, or to the right past Nipple Point. At high
water early in the year it's best to walk along the track to Nipple
Point as the shore line is pretty rocky and bushy and not much
shoreline will be exposed." [R.F., June 2002]
Note: The Rocky Mountaineer tourist train comes along some
days in the summer and can be in view of parts of the beach, so
unless one wishes to be a memorable part of someone's train photos
it's best to hit the water or cover up with a towel at those
times.
Comment: "I went there yesterday to have look. The water is
very high. The two male nudists I saw there had only about a foot of
beach and the mosquitoes were fierce." [Terry, July 2002]
Comment: "The directions to the beach are exactly as printed
on the website. When I was there in May/2003, the waterline was down
to expose lots of pebbly beach. And I even got to wave at the folks
passing by in the tourist train." [B.D., June/2003]
Comment: "The beach in Canoe is very nice and quite busy the day I was
there. Rocky but awesome swimming in the Shuswap Lake.Your directions were perfect." [Lake
Man, Oct 2006]
Comment: "Crystal clear water, rocky beach with mainly nudists; very limited
parking! Great Spot." [Thomas, Apr 2009]
Comment: "Tried going to this beach in July, but the first person I encountered
deliberately steered me toward the clothed beach (while he went the other way)
and the second person said it wasn't a place for kids. Frustrated by those greetings
and facing a difficult descent and ascent for what would be a short visit, we
gave up and drove on." [B.,
