Quebec.

This section lists some spots in the rest of Canada which might be of interest to visitors from BC and other locations.

This is not intended to be a complete listing for Central and Eastern Canada. Though it does contain all the information I have. I welcome submissions for these regions, but advise readers that many more locations are available. Please follow the links to FCN and other sites that provide more complete listings.

OTTAWA / GAUTINEAU PARK: Meech Lake. [Photo1] [2] [3] [4] [Map] (GPS: N45°31'36.68", W75°51'48.65")
"Gatineau Hills, sand, large sunning rocks, waterfall with flowing rock ponds, what could be better? The Meech Lake area is only a 20 minute drive from the downtowns of Ottawa and Gatineau, and another 20 minute walk on a beautiful forested trail. There are two areas."
"The first spot is a small beach on the lake that has a nice rock slope on one side with several sunning spots. The water is good for swimming, with a long gentle sandy walk out into the lake and usually fresh clear water. This area is a mixed group location with couples, singles and small groups of friends enjoying the sun and water.
The second spot is a beautiful inland setting, where Little Meech Lake flows into Meech Creek. A small waterfall flows through the remains of a dam [Photo1] into safe gentle-flowing ponds [Photo2] and through the ruins of an old mill. It is a wonderfully restful and refreshing place to hang out. The water is clean, the rocks safe and flat, and the waterfall is both tingly and gives a powerful massage feeling to the body. The main walking path passes by here, so regular walkers and cyclists can see anyone here. It never seems to bother anyone, though. In fact, clothed people often stop here for awhile and put their feet in the water and take pictures. There are signs(very small) posted in a few locations warning people not to be nude, but in all my years here I've never once been bothered."
"There is a large open-water area above the dam [Photo3], with sandy sunning locations, a creek and walking trails all around. This area is also mixed, especially on the weekends, but does tend to attract more of the gay crowd during the week."
"Further upstream, on the rocky shore at the end of Little Meech Lake is another area for hanging around [Photo4]. Mixed couples tend to be here. The rock goes around providing a few locations to rest.
"Thes are wonderful spots that can only be appreciated by visiting them. The weekends can be crowded during the summer but weekdays are light and easy." [Doug, Sep 2007]
Directions: "15 - 20 minutes north of Ottawa and Gatineau. More than one route but easiest may be Hwy 5 north from Ottawa/Gatineau, exit Old Chelsea Rd, turn left onto Old Chelsea Road, which becomes Meech Lake Rd. Just stay on it until you come to Obrien Beach (Parking Lot 11) (GPS: N45°31'36.68", W75°51'48.65") at the textile beach. Take the #36 trail (not the gravel road) that goes up the hill -- a nice wide trail through the forest, Five or ten minutes in, you go down a large hill and pass over a wooden bridge separating Meech Lake on your left from Little Meech Lake on your right. Walk a minute further and turn right to get to the Mill (GPS: N45°32'18.00", W75°52'3.00") near the end of Little Meech. To get to the beach area instead, stay on the main path another minute or so, up a small hill then leave the main path on the path to your left. It is only a minute or so again and you will be at the beach (GPS: N45°31'59.16", W75°52'14.92"). Slip out of your clothes and enjoy." [Doug, Sep 2007]
Trivia: The official Gatineau Park winter trail map shows one trail to the Carbide Wilson mill site, but the summer map omits both the trail and the point-of-interest. Apparently, they don't want to encourage people to go where the nudists are!

MONTREAL: Oka Provincial Park.
"Awesome beach of wide, clean white sand along the Ottawa River. This provincial park has one of the best camping and beach sites anywhere in eastern Canada. The park has the obvious textile beach area and a large (guessing 1km+/-) clothing optional one. This beach is very busy on the weekends from May thru August with upwards of a few hundred people. They come by car and boat from Montreal and eastern Ontario. The beach is a mix of families, couples, and singles nearer to the parking lots and a gay area farther on. The sand is truly soft and walkable. The beach is backed by a large forest with biking and hiking trails. During the week is quieter and is a very relaxing place to refresh the body, mind and soul." [Doug, Sep 2007]
Directions: "On Hwy 344 just east of the town of Oka, about 45 minutes from downtown Montreal (50km). Oka can also be reached by ferry from Hudson across the Ottawa River. Hudson is on Hwy 417 which runs between Montreal and Ottawa (90 minutes +/-). After you enter the park and get to the beach area head to the parking areas to the left and go to the very last lot. Walking from there will take you to the transition area between the textile and nude beach. Walk to your left(east) and the nude section will become obvious. Enjoy!" [Doug, Sep 2007]
