January 24 at 2:30 AM ... under construction ...
I probably should not have traveled during the height of SARS in April 2003

We took the night train from Harbin to Hailar in late April 2004 ...

And the day train back again ...

On May 1, 2004 (May Day), I awoke early in Hailar (Hulan Bier City) and went for a walk before we had to go to the train station. Hundreds of people were out at 6 AM for walks and exercise on the walkway paralleling the river.

About 40 middle-aged to elderly women and a few men were doing fan and sword dances. I am not sure of this is a form of tai chi or a variant. It was very graceful and beautiful

Some chose to sit and watch . . .
