I probably should not have traveled during the height of SARS in April 2003
We took the night train from Harbin to Hailar in late April 2004 ... |
And the day train back again ... |
| On May 1,
2004 (May Day), I awoke early in Hailar (Hulan Bier City) and went for
a walk before we had to go to the train station. Hundreds of people were
out at 6 AM for walks and exercise on the walkway paralleling the river.
About 40 middle-aged to elderly women and a few men were doing fan and sword dances. I am not sure of this is a form of tai chi or a variant. It was very graceful and beautiful
