This
is a very fast set of instructions using the Tweety Bird. Write
me for more information about using Phentex. clives@shaw.ca
This is a close-up of a Phentex yarn head. The method takes a while, but
I like the heads better than the Saap Body Fur heads.
Tie in body/wing material of choice. Flash is important. Anchor dumbbell
eyes of choice. These are "Umpqua Presentation" eyes. Spirit River Deep
Sea eyes (with paste on 'eyeballs') are easier to come by. (See bottom
photo.)
Cut 30 cm (or so) lengths of unbraided Phentex yarn and tie in as show.
(This
winter is started doing this differently, but have not take photographs
yet. I have been chopping the yarn in 5-cm lengths and tying in bundles
of a few threads here and there, filling the head space as I go.)
.
.
.
Loop the
yarn as shown in this sequence.
.
Open the
loops by cutting with scissors. Use a sharp dentist's probe to comb out
the fine strands.
Trim to
desired shape and size. Smaller is usually better.
And
thus the Tweety Bird was born. I fired of these pictures
to Dan Carpenter for his site, and he said, "Hey! Does that have a name?
Looks like a Tweety Bird." It's a great fly that is worth a try. This one
is primarily yellow, but yellow and chartreuse is also good. Of course,
it can be tied in any color combination.
