Squamish Potters Guild
Some meetings were held early in the year, and the uptake was somewhat limited. We still have the goal to establish a guild, when the community is to the point to support it. The studio will make space and facilities available to help get things started, and ultimately we aim to establish a community pottery facility and permanent home for a Guild in Squamish.
We have Constitution and By Laws from a couple other guilds that we can consider, as well as the default ones in the Society Act.
We have combined a list of Objectives for the constitution. This list is compiled from several guilds, local and BC overall, so it's a catch all at this point. People are asked to please look them over and provide feedback - the list will have to be pared down, so suggestions please.
For the most part, the structure of the board is usually fairly standard.
Questions we'll want to consider are around issues like:
- Membership / classes of membership - group, associate, student, etc.;
- Membership rates - benefits and privileges;
- Geographic scope of Guild - Corridor? Squamish Only? Whistler? Pemberton? Lion's Bay? . . .
- Name - probably springs at least in part from the above...
We will renew efforts in the new year. Please consider participating if you would like to see a Potters Guild established in Squamish. We have the numbers, we just need the commitment and to get organized.
Stay tuned to this page please and we'll try to keep everyone updated. Comments welcome at clayworks@shaw.ca
