These days, I am primarily a vessel maker. I produce functional wares: bowls, platters, teapots and the like from a red clay fired to stoneware temperatures and intended for daily use in the home. The vessels' undecorated surfaces act as blank canvases just waiting to be marked. After a first firing, I apply glazes in multiple layers by spraying and then etch designs through the top layer of glaze. After a second firing, intricate line patterns such as leaves enveloping a bowl or figures running around the rim of a teapot are revealed often conjuring up new possibilities to explore.
