Construction Experience

Averys has extensive construction experience ranging from earthworks and remediation work to road building and pipeworks installation.  Industrial maintenance and related works has also been a major part of Avery's business.  The company has been involved in some of Sault Ste. Marie's largest construction projects to date.  The following page gives more detail on some of the recent large scale jobs that the company has undertaken:

Sault Area Hospital

 

The new Sault Area Hospital represents the community's largest construction project in the history of our community.  It will have 289 beds and offer a full range of services including acute, general rehabilitation, mental health, complex continuing care hospital services and a new cancer radiation therapy facility. The hospital site will also include a heliport for air ambulances.

One of Avery Construction's largest projects to date, the company was responsible for clearing and preparing the land for the foundation of the complex, as well as installing utilities such as sewer and water mains.  Averys will also be responsible for preparation of the paved parking lots.

Prince Wind Energy ProjectPicture copyright Adam Lyons

 

The Prince Wind Energy Project comprises 126 wind turbines extending over nearly 20,000 acres. With a total installed capacity of 189 megawatts (MW), Prince is now the largest wind farm in Canada.

Completed in November, 2006, the Prince Wind Energy Project is located northwest of Sault Ste. Marie, in Northern Ontario. The project was constructed in two phases, each with its own 20-year power purchase agreement with the Ontario Power Authority.

Avery Construction was responsible for building 48km of 10 metre wide primary access road throughout the entire site which involved many hectares of forest being cleared and harvested as well as hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of aggregate being moved.  Averys was also responsible for the installation of culverts, and the preparation of the foundations for each of the 126 windmills. This project was successfully completed in 2006.

Other Recent Projects

 

OPP Forensic Unit Building (2007) - Averys did the excavation work for the foundation, installed sanitary, storm and water mains, and was involved in the excavation and granulars for the parking lot. SooToday.com story

Steel River Bridge Rehabilitation (2007) - Averys constructed 1.4 kilometres of roadway which included clearing, grubbing, earth excavation, and the construction of a crane pad.

Highway 17  through Desbarats (2007/2008) - This is a two year project consisting of rock removal, earth excavation, and the placement of granulars for additional travel lanes.  Last year an additional travel lane for turning was constructed at a busy intersection, and ongoing work this year includes the installation of a large 5500 x 3100mm concrete box culvert under the existing Hwy #17 as well as the construction of another additional lane.  This work is being conducted in a very environmentally controlled area.  Photo gallery available HERE

Clergue Park Waterfront Project (2006) - Avery Construction was involved in the City of Sault Ste. Marie's boardwalk expansion plans. The company removed old timber cribs and installed sheet piling to replace them.  Some shoreline protection (rip-rap) was also installed.  Averys also installed a concrete box culvert to allow water from the St. Mary's River to flow into a planned floral pond.  A photo gallery of the project can be found HERE.

Algoma Tubes (2006) - Construction of two parking lots which included storm sewers, earth excavation, granulars, concrete curb and asphalt.

Hudson St. Demolition (2005) - Averys was responsible for demolishing and disposing of 20 houses and various other buildings along Hudson St. to make way for a new truck route.  SooToday.com story

Shikwamkwa Dam Replacement Access Roads (2005) - The work for this project included clearing, grubbing, culvert installations, road building, traffic control and rock excavation.

Great Lakes Power Northern Ave Station (2004) - Averys was responsible for the demolition of the old equipment, laying a new foundation, trenching, backfilling, excavation, and soil remediation.

Various Road building (2000 - 2005) - Work completed for Clergue Forest Management, Averys was responsible for building bush access roads and culvert installations.
