MARTIN FAMILY REUNION HISTORY
In was on occasions such as this, a Carnival here - a Carnival there, a fete here - fete there, then a drink or two or three, then family reminiscences, and finally it was time for thoughts to be turned in action and eventually the birth of the First Family Reunion was announced with the help and persistence of some very dedicated Martin Family members........
FOREWORD
By Wilbur A. Walrond / Michael Headley .. August 30, 1992
In these changing times, it has become more important than ever to maintain lifelong `family values in order to sustain our families as we strive to maintain our common goals of self-preservation and a comfortable standard of living for all.
Ours is a climate of marriage breakdowns, single parent families, foster parent families, extended families who are often more than an arm's length away, new diseases which thrive in situations of lax moral values, coupled with inadequate care and awareness of the consequences of health risks, as well as decreasing availability of adequate education due to overcrowded or insufficient school facilities.
While this describes an adverse climate, our families must weather the storms if we are to survive. This directs us to a need to identify, understand and reinforce the values contained in our roots and to avail ourselves of the support and strength of the unity of our families.
What started off very innocently as casual conversation between two relatives - "Do you know that 'so and so' is related to us?" evolved into a greater desire to know more about their roots and eventually, a sincere wish to meet as many of these relatives as possible.
However, more than just wishing to get to know each other, was an even greater desire to see evolve from such a get-together, some constructive and on-going results.
An idea is merely a seed, which if not given conditions for germination and cultivation will not grow into a tree, much less bear fruit.
One goal that was envisioned in 1992 was the eventual formation of a Foundation (show link to the Foundation) We are proud to say that on October 3, 2008 the MARTIN FAMILY FOUNDATION became a reality at a special Launching help at the Coblentz Inn, Port of Spain, Trinidad.

"The Chairman of the Board"
This idea of a family reunion took root in February 1992 and after six short months of planning a 22- ft long 'Family Tree' grew forth with some 1000 names of direct descendants of our forefathers JOHN & MARGARET (CHOW) MARTIN .
The August 30, 1992 first family reunion saw some 400 family members consisting of great grandparents, grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts but best of all there were friends and workmates, who prior to that eventful date, were for many years unaware of their true relationships to each other and we soon found ourselves ready for our 'Tree' to bear fruit and ensure regeneration and prolonged growth.
Bearing in mind that the value of our contributions is relative to the need which they satisfy and the relative selection of use to which they are put, we ask that we all do our best, in whatever way we can, to help us to achieve our goals as a united family group. Many of us can make valued contributions of skill, wisdom and experience, all of which will be gratefully accepted and appreciated.
Now that August 30, 1992 has seen the sprouting of our family tree, let us now nurture it so that it will blossom, bear fruit and be an ongoing source of sustenance for our present and future generations.
