Meet The Players

In this section we take the time to get to know our players a little bit better.
Just think, if you join us, you could be featured too! So come on down!

Here we have Jennifer praying for good rack.  She is consistently one of our top players, who can probably beat you in 3 different languages! This very sporty and busy school teacher excels at baseball, traveling and laughing.  Some say you can see the wheels turning in her head while she shuffles her tiles looking for that perfect play.  When she has time she can be found playing on-line on Jomarco with the name Qatnip and ISC under the name of Thewack.

This is the multitalented Pat who is so artistic it makes us who can only draw a stick man feel sick!  She plays regularly on Jomarco under the name Patscraps where she terrorizes the rest of us.  She does so much for the club including hosting and we probably wouldn't have a club if it wasn't for her.

Say hello to our club founder again, Bill. This retired writer carries a mean rack, but is always fun to play with.  He is a NSA member and has had some very good results in tournament play, including a couple of victories.  He practices on the Internet where he is affectionately known as Old Buzzard. Look for him on the Jomarco site.

Next up is one of our steadiest winners, yes we are talking about Iva. She has been a regular for several years now, but this year the light really came on and she has improved immensely! She is also one of the best sports and nicest people you could ever hope to have a game with.  She practices by playing on Jomarco and with Maven, who she insists is a woman.  You decide? She is always helping us out with something and is one of the main reasons why we even have club.

This is Helen, a retired schoolteacher and chicken chaser with a wicked word knowledge who makes even the most seasoned veteran of Scrabble nervous! Helen is a NSA member now and has two tournaments under her belt.  She sharpens her skills on Jomarco and sometimes worries that it is close to an addiction!  She does volunteer work and likes to travel. She drives a really big truck, so don't beat her too badly or she might run you down with it!

This is one of our most veteran players, Selma.  Pictured here on her hazelnut orchard farm, with her husband Helmut and their pet llama, Chico. She says that llamas make a good pet and that it is also a good word to get rid of some L's. She makes some of the best apple juice you have ever tasted and her baking would probably win a few blue ribbons too! Selma is having her best year ever at the club, keep up the good work!

Many experts say that accountants and people that work with numbers, make the best Scrabble players.  Meet Ken,  a retired accountant who is no exception.  This veteran of  Scrabble is known for his outstanding combination plays and his puns! While playing him you are quite likely to learn a few new words and a couple of new jokes!

We we are now pleased to introduce you to Sandy.  She is one of those people who can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about your history and probably a few things you didn't want to know!  Amazing what she can do on the Internet, including playing Scrabble.  As a child she had a pet monkey, I always wanted a monkey! Always a pleasure to play with such a nice person.

This is our lovely host, Linda.  We are all grateful to her and her husband for letting us use the executive meeting room in their church every Thursday night because it sure beats playing outside on the sidewalk, in the rain! You would be hard pressed to find a player who gets more bingos than Linda.  This amazing player uses her strong vocabulary and excellent rack management to systematically destroy her opponents.   Of course, she always does it in the nicest way so that it won't seem so painful.  She plays on Jomarco when her husband isn't looking!

Do you enjoy a nice game of Scrabble with a really clogged up board? Well then, you have met your perfect opponent, Jill. She is currently shakily employed by Air Canada and is known as the master of the two letter word. She can also be found on Jomarco and ISC under the name of Llllama. She lives about 60 mi. away but is still able to attend quite frequently. She says it is always worth the trip! She is the sister of the webmaster who does this site, so I could pretty much say anything terrible about her but have to think twice as she also supplies me with a ride every week!

Here we have Jay, who is hopelessly addicted to Scrabble and cheeseburgers. He also enjoys sports, computers and music. Always trying to improve, but seems to be spinning his wheels most of the time in a permanent bog. He can often be found playing on ISC and Jomarco, with the nickname Oboe.  Thursday night's are his favorite because it is club night!

Alice is another retired schoolteacher and the globetrotter who can probably teach you a few things and is fast becoming a real force to be reckoned with in the Scrabble world.  She is practicing with both Maven and on the Internet with Jomarco and it shows! When she isn't learning new words she is probably watching curling as there is just no end to the excitement in her life!  She's also developing very strong arms from packing our Scrabble supplies around in the infamous brown bag.

Meet Betty, a real competitor both on the Scrabble board and the golf course.  She admits that both can be equally frustrating at times, but they sure are fun! Some of Betty's opponents say that sometimes after a game with her you feel like you have been hit over the head with a 9 iron.  She helps out a lot at the club and we really appreciate her efforts.

This is Heather, another one of our best members and most talented players.  Many of us at the club know some pretty strange words, but Heather is one of the few players who actually knows what they mean! She is really glad to have discovered the club as she was fast running out of competition at home.  Look for her to be near or at the top of our ladder virtually every week.  She's always willing to help out a newcomer and you can learn a lot from her.  Well done Heather!

This is Mac, our youngest player, and fast becoming one of our best.   We are all somewhat afraid of him as he knows too many words and is now getting bingos at an age when the rest of us were still learning how to wave bye-bye! He had a good teacher though, as his mom is Heather! Mac is very polite and we all enjoy playing with him.  He is currently going to university to become an engineer.  Yikes!

We would now like you to meet Judy, a math teacher from nearby Abbottsford, who regularly makes the half-hour drive to the club. She plays on ISC under the name of Jabz. Her name may be Jabz but it's more like a knockout punch that she carries! She is skyrocketing to the top of our ladder and is truly one of the people to beat at our club as she has the highest NSA rating of any club member we have as she is having some excellent results at tournaments.

Okay everyone, it is time to introduce you to Ted who is pictured here thinking about one of the few games he actually might have lost. He comes all the way from Mission, a 45 minute drive which gives him plenty of time to think about all those new words in the TWL06! He can be found on ISC under the name of Tbone. Ted enters many tournaments and has done very well.  He plans to enter more in the future and his NSA rating is on the rise, so watch out for him.

Rod has recently moved to Chilliwack from New Westminister and wanted to be closer to the grandkids.  We all enjoy playing with Rod because if the lighting conditions are just right, you can see his tiles on the reflection of his head!  He is a real good sport and a pleasure to have on board!

Another one of our newer players is Kay.  She claims to be a "newcomer" but isn't fooling any of us as you will soon see when you play her!  She practices with maven and plays on Jomarco.  You will find her volunteering at The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.  She also enjoys rock hounding and exercising at the leisure center.  You'll have to be in good shape to beat her!  She is a great addition to our club.

Marion is originally from the East Coast but wisely chose to retire in the hotbed of Scrabble known as Chilliwack.  I love playing with Marion because you can never tell if she has been winning or losing, she's always so nice! She's always willing to help us with anything and we are lucky to have her.

It was obvious from her very first night that Anne had played some serious Scrabble before and now that she is a club member and battling on Jomarco, there is no limit to how great she will be!  If you don't find her near a Scrabble board you might see her at your local curling rink.  Hurry hard Anne, hurry hard!

Here we have Annabelle, looking very Hollywood with her shades on.  She is originally from Barbados and we are all jealous when she goes back there to visit.  This part-time librarian can often be found watching reality TV when not battling on the Scrabble field. She has been known to talk to herself while playing, so perhaps she went to the same Scrabble school as Selma?

We are so pleased to introduce you to Kim.  She is currently our only player who can keep score with one hand and sign you up to buy a three bedroom rancher with the other, because she is a real estate agent. She may be new to us, but she certainly isn't new to Scrabble and is dazzling all of us with her word knowledge that she has acquired from years of playing on the Internet.  She hopes to take part in some NSA tournaments in the near future, so watch out for her! We are so glad you joined us Kim!
