14. James 2 Crossen [image] (James 1 , James Sn , Mr ) was born on 9 Mar 1826 in Comber, Co. Down, Ireland. He died on 9 Dec 1890 in Montreal. He was buried in Cobourg Cemetery.
Founder of Crossen Car Works. James Crossen was approximately 13 years old when he came to Cobourg in 1842. There can be little doubt he came to Cobourg because he had an Uncle Thomas and cousins living near Cobourg at the time. Although Thomas and his family left Ballyrush in 1827, before James was born, he no-doubt knew of them from his father and would have had family connections in Cobourg.
James married Margaret Jane Hayden [image] daughter of Rev. Wm Hayden and Jane Kirsop on 28 Apr 1854 in Cold Springs. Margaret was born on 12 May 1832. She died on 18 Apr 1901. She was buried in Cobourg Cemetery.

Here is the obit for Hugh Crossen found in the April 24, 1903 issue of the PLAINVIEW NEWS:
"Death of Hugh Crossen
On Sunday night, April 19th, at the home of his aunt, Miss Eliza Crossen, Hugh Crossen passed from this life after a short illness of but a few hours. Only a few of our people had heard of his sickness when his death was announced. He was about as usual on Saturday, but feeling badly during the night grew worse until the end came about midnight Sunday. Of the exact nature of his malady we have not been informed. The suddenness and severity of the attack was a great shock to his friends who have the sympathy of all our people.
Hugh Crossen was born in Plainview April 4, 1865, but left here when about five years old, having lost both his father and mother. He lived with relatives in Iowa until he was about fourteen years of age. He secured an education mainly by his own efforts, having worked his way through Hamline University and afterwards graduated at Evanston. He intended to make the ministry his life work but his poor health prevented him. He was a close student and great lover of books. He suffered much from ill health, but was never known to complain. Even in his last illness he said that he was not as sick as his friends thought.
The funeral was from the Congregational Church on Tuesday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. D.M. Johnston."

Marr: 21 Jun 1883, Cobourg, OntarioAccording to her sister Elizabeth, Stat dec of Elizabeth Crossen Junw 7th 1912, a copy of which is in my posession, Jane may have remained on the farm, presumably with her husband, about 1886.
Jane married James Stott son of William Stott and Rose Ann Bonner on 21 Jun 1882 in Cobourg. James was born on 1 Nov 1849 in Hamilton Twp. He died in May 1930 in Hamilton Twp.
James Stott was a brother of my grandfather, David Stott. Their parents were William Stott and Rose Ann Bonner (Bonnar, Bonar) who came from Ireland between 1835 and 1840. They settled near Baltimore, north of Cobourg where all the family was born.
James married Jane Crossan and they also farmed near Baltimore. Their only son married a Catholic and apparently because of that, the younger generations were not close with their Stott cousins. After Jane died, James returned to the original Stott home to live with his sisters Eliza and Rachel and brother Thomas. James and Jane are buried in Union Cemetery, Cobourg as are all the rest of the Stotts. The catholic Stotts were buried in the Catholic cemetery. Austin lived at Cobourg and although I talked to him once, he did not seem interested in pursuing the family connection.
