Chad's Biography

Well, I currently live in Calgary, Alberta which is located in the western part of Canada just a short drive from the Rocky Mountains.  I have been flying RC since about 1990, and competing heavily in pattern since about '98.  I first began flying the FAI class in '99 and eventually made the Canadian team in 2001 for the World Champs in Ireland where I finished 30th.  I was on the team again in 2003 and went to Poland where I finished 40th, where I was unprepared for the judging assault on snaps!  In 2003 I won the Canadian National Championship for the first time.

By profession I have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  My first job was a design engineer for BJ Services Company Canada in the Coiled Tubing Research and Engineering department.  We developed coiled tubing downhole tools that are used by BJ field personnel to perform a variety of well servicing throughout the world.  In that position I sometimes needed to travel to the field to operate and train field personnel on the new tools, those travels have taken me around the US and Canada, as well to Muscat, Oman in the Middle East and Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela.

I was awarded my Professional Engineer (P.Eng) status in May of 2005. In Canada you are not allowed to practise engineering un-supervised until you have recieved this status. To become a P.Eng in Canada requires an education from an accredited university as well as 4 years of work experience after schooling.

I left BJ in July of 2006 in search of more responsibility and career development. I found that with Crown Energy here in Calgary. I am a Senior Design Engineer with Crown Energy's Stimulation equipment manufacturing department. Manufacturing is a major leap for myself, and I now find myself learning a lot about that part of the industry as well as responsible for around 5 designers/drafters on a daily basis. Where I go from here, who knows :)

Also my wife and I had our first child on September 20th, 2006. Matthew Brian Northeast arrived healthy at 7lbs even. Another big change but the most rewarding experience I think I have ever had. Hopefully in a few years he will be joining me at the field on a daily basis :)

Well that's about it, maybe more as life continues......
