 North Central Community Coordinating Council

 Single Parent Mentoring

North Central CRC

For the Communities of Sandstone, MacEwan, Beddington Heights, Huntington Hills, Thorncliffe, Greenview, North Haven, Highwood, Highland Park, Mount Pleasant, Tuxedo Park, Cambrian Heights, and Winston Heights, the Council is seeking people to be park of the Community Coordinating Council (CCC).

Your CCC needs volunteer Community Members to help us support children and families, plan activities and events, and make sure our voices are heard!

The Council has completed a community assessment to better understand the area.  The assessment included looking at demographics, doing a survey, and interviewing people and groups in the area.  We learned a lot about what is good in our community, as well as the needs.  The information collected has allowed us to focus our work on five priorities: Affordable Housing, Youth Services, Immigrant Services, Space for Programs, and Transportation/Service Accessibility.  Working groups have been created around each area of need.  We have also been involved with addressing security concerns at the 78th Avenue Bus Loop, the designation of a Community School in the North Central area, and we are also looking at the possibility of a youth centre for the area.

The Council also works as an advisory body to the North Central Community Resource Centre, and the Region 3 Child and Family Services Authority.  We are a busy group with a lot of different interests and ideas, and we always welcome new members who want to make a difference!

So, right now you are asking:  What is a Community
Coordinating Council?

Community Coordinating Councils were set up by request of the Government of Alberta to allow communities a more direct say in the planning and delivery of child and family services.

The Council acts as an advisory group to ensure that local services are delivered in the best possible way for the children and families in their communities.

Members of the council can be local residents, community representatives, youth, service users or providers.  If you would like to learn more, contact either Paul at 275-6666 or Dennis 221-3605.

Along the Way Single Parent Mentorship Program

Along the Way matches community volunteers with low income single parents to provide an alliance, encouragement, and support to the parent.  There is also a group component, ongoing life skills workshops, and family activities.  Through the mentoring relationship, volunteers offer guidance towards the development of self confidence and independence.  For more information contact Paula at 275-6666 ext 41.
