to move on from Everquest. There will be no further updates to my Compendiums
from me. However, if someone wishes to use them as the basis for continued
work, they are more than welcome. I ask only that my original work by
acknowledged and that no profit is made. Other than that, I put all my
Compendiums (Foraging, Fletching, Ranger) into the public domain. I hope you
find them useful and that they make your EQ experience a little more enjoyable.

Sometimes players find it annoying to have to remember to hit the forage button every 30 seconds and then open up their inventory to drop the foraged item in, especially when they are otherwise occupied. However, it is very easy to set up a system to “automatically” forage. Thanks to Whitman Winterborn of the Luclin Server for suggesting to include this in the Compendium and providing the written explanation which is the basis of the following tutorial.
Step #1
Find out what Action # your
Forage Skill is.
Open the ACTIONS menu (Alt-M)
Open the “Actions” Menu by
clicking on the second tab.
The buttons are numbered like this:

Your Forage Skill will be in one of the buttons. Make note of the corresponding
number. Insert that number where you see “#” in this tutorial.
Step #2
Open the “Socials” Menu by clicking on the fourth tab.
Open the “Edit Social” window by right-clicking on an empty button.
Type in a name, such as “Autoforage”.
In the first line, type: /doability #
In the second line, type: /pause 10
In the third line, type: /autoinventory
If you have the Nature’s Bounty AA, repeat the last two
lines.
Press '”Accept”
Step #3
Make a Hotkey of your new social by right-clicking on it
until a button appears on your cursor.
Place your new Hotkey in your Hotkey menu. The buttons are
numbered as above, but to 10. Make a note of the Hotkey number you have used.
Step #4
Make a Macro to use the HotKey
Open the OPTIONS Menu (Alt-O)
Open the “Keyboard” Menu by clicking on the fourth tab.
Select category “Macros”
On the line for your noted Hotkey Button, click the
“Alternative” column. You will get a “Press a Key” instruction.
Press the key you normally use to move forward
(alternatively, you can use any other key you use a lot, such as a turn key).
Close the OPTIONS Menu.
Now whenever you press the forward button (or whatever button you selected) and
the Forage Skill is refreshed, you will get the “found some food” text and will
briefly see the food item on your cursor. A moment later the food will be
automatically placed into the first available inventory slot, with the
accompanying sound of a bag opening and closing. There are two things to note.
First, Macros are for your ACCOUNT, not for your CHARACTER. So you may want to
disable the autoforage function when you play a non-foraging character.
Secondly, the /autoinventory command works for whatever is on your cursor at
the time. So if you are trying to switch out weapons or something while moving,
you could find the item placed into your inventory automatically. These can
make for some awkward moments, but the inconveniences are well worth the
benefits of foraging without thought. Just be sure to clear out your inventory
often.
