Eaton, M.C., Rupert William

Lieut. R.W. Eaton was killed in action on the 27th of Sept.1918, age 21. His is buried at Quarry Wood Cemetery, Sains-Les-Marquion, France.

"For conspicuous gallantry and leadership during the attack of his company on machine-gun posts in the woods, which were checking the advance of the whole battalion, He reached his objective with only four men of his platoon, the rest having become casualties on the way across the open, but disposed of the posts and its occupants. He then collected some more men and made a dash for another post, capturing it with two guns and 20 prisoners".

"In the attack be the 54th Canadian Infantry Battn. at Vimy Ridge (Berthonval Sector) on April 9th, 1917 showed conspicuous gallantry in carrying important messages and acting as guide under heavy rifle fire and machine gun fire, and returned with valuable information, on the journey he saw an officer of the 102nd lying wounded so immediately after delivering his message he returned and carried him in under heavy machine gun and rifle fire."
