A Slip in the Rain: The Fumble that Destroyed Canada's Team
The True Story of the 1967-72 Toronto Argonauts
Review (By former Argo Chip Barrett)
Craig,
I couldn’t put the book down! Every page brought back the memories, the fun, the thrills, the frustrations and excitement of those few years with the Argos...what a ride! I actually got mad at Leon all over again after all these years. Tough to stay mad at Leo though after all these years. Fascinating guy to this day.....I liked and admired him very much..... the debate on his coaching continues (luckily the defense at the time had little to do with him).....but he sure could sell tickets.
You captured beautifully the roller coaster ride to the Grey Cup and the excruciating disappointment of loosing. If nothing else it was a character builder but one of life’s unfulfilled moments.
You also document clearly the chaos, frustration and disappointment of the ‘72 season.
But my sustaining memories are of a unique group of very talented men playing their guts out week after week with an intensity I have never experienced since. You captured the passion we shared for those few years.
Thanks, Chip Barrett #30
