The Story

It was one faithful Wednesday night when a few of my friends and I decided to go play basketball at our favorite local community college. Despite the fact that none of us has played in over a year, we all knew it was never too late to start up sports again...especially basketball. Although our mind and spirit hasn't changed, the basketball environment did, and for the worse if I might add. All of a sudden the gym was over crowded with pompous hoodlums or overgrown nimrods who's soul purpose is to bully people out of their basketball court so that they can play their own game. Being undersize and extremely out of shape, the only thing we could do is sit on the benches and watch. We watched for two hours unable to win a game or get a game for that matter, and we watched how each of our five dollars went "down the drain." We went home that night dissatisfied and somewhat angry.

My hot-blooded cousin took matters to his own hands and found an old high school friend who hosted basketball at a free gym owned by Corpus Christi Church, but was struggling with controlling the volume and attendance. To be honest, I do not remember how the organizer job was given to me, but I knew at that moment that there was a lot of potential to have great basketball. And so in the month of February 2005, the church had its first night of CCWB. The rest was history.

The Facts

CCWB is a private league of amateur basketball players that play weekly at a drop-in basis. It was intended for those who are sick of waiting at the gym for hours before getting a chance to play their first game, and for those who like friendly and yet intense competition. The cost of playing is free and we try to ensure that every single player receives equal playing time. Signup is through electronic invitation only and is capped at 18 players. New members must be referred by an active CCWB player.

Last Words

Although CCWB has grown significantly over the last few months, the organizers try to stay true to their initial goals. And that is: To ensure players lots of playing time in a non-intimidating place where the cost of playing is extremely low and yet the games are extremely competitive.

The organizers would also like to show our thanks and appreciation to Corpus Christi Church for providing CCWB ballers such a great place to play!
