"Opening Night"

In 1993, Portal Players Dramatic Society hosted the North Island Zone Drama Festival at The Capitol Theatre. Festival dates were April 25 to May 1, 1993. Our entry was "Opening Night" by Norm Foster, which appropriately enough opened the festival on Sunday, April 25. A total of TEN productions took to the Capitol stage during this festival, which coincided with the 60th Anniversary of Zone Festivals & Mainstage as Theatre BC events. This Festival returns to The Capitol Theatre in May, 2006.

PPDS Member Annie Humphries-Loutit won a "Best Supporting Actor in a Female Role" for her performance in Opening Night, at this Festival.

This show was our entry in the 1994 North Island Zone Drama Festival, performed May 27, 1994 at the Village Theatre in Qualicum, hosted by E.C.H.O. Players. Three awards were brought back from this festival: Best Supporting Actor, Jamie Bracht; Best Technical Production; and Best Graphic Design for Program Layout and T-Shirts, graphic designer, Kim Schroeder.
