Year after year, decade after
decade, the public is conned into believing the battle against
cancer is being won when in fact more people get and die of cancer
today than ever before, far beyond population growth. For example,
the incidence of cancer in Canada has doubled in the past fifteen
years contrary to all the hype and hoopla generated by the cancer
establishment. Here is some factual information to put the matter
into focus:
In 1971 then US President Richard Nixon officially declared "war
on cancer" and a cure was predicted within five to ten years.
Now --thirty-two years later-- we have a cancer epidemic instead
of a cancer cure. Forty per cent of Canadians get cancer (excluding
skin cancer) and of those 62 per cent die of the disease according
to Statistics Canada.
Cancer is not only a terrible
disease, it is also a multi-billion dollar industry. Hence a
cancer cure (especially an inexpensive one) would be about as
welcome among cancer profiteers as a shark in a swimming pool.
Two-time Nobel Prize winner, the late Dr. Linus Pauling, called
the war against cancer "largely a fraud." Here are
some of the reasons:
1. Millions of dollars are raised every year for "cancer
research." Almost all of that money is aimed at treatment
and then only if it is potentially profitable for the pharmaceutical
industry. Research projects are chosen by members of the cancer
establishment which ignores the most effective cancer reduction
strategy: prevention. It also blocks any innovative research
that has no potential benefit for pharmaceutical interests no
matter how promising such research may be. Money raised for cancer
research is largely an employment/profit scheme. It includes
salaries for executives of cancer organizations as well as research
scientists and their staff. It is interesting to note that while
it is public knowledge how much politicians make since they are
paid out of public funds, the incomes of Canadian Cancer Society
executives and research staff who also get paid out of public
funds are not disclosed. Clearly they should be. Moreover, claims
of medical breakthroughs in cancer research often coincide with
fundraising campaigns, never to be heard of again. To understand
the dismal failure of the cancer industry to reduce the incidence
and deaths of cancer consider this:
If the billions of
dollars spent on cancer research ($30 billion during the past
25 years in the US alone) had been effective and if all the so-called
cancer-breakthroughs had been true, then obviously fewer and
fewer people would get and die of cancer instead of more and
more (far beyond population growth). Clearly the public is being
misled by the cancer establishment.
2. Very little has changed
in cancer treatment during the past half centutry. Conventional
treatment is still limited to surgery, radiation and chemotherapy
(also known as slash, burn and poison). The Canadian Cancer Society's
own statistics show that in most cases conventional treatment
fails. In fact, the consequences of cancer treatment are often
worse than the disease itself and frequently hasten death rather
than prevent it. A 33-year study by the late Dr. Hardin Jones,
Professor of Medical Physics University of California, found
that "untreated cancer victims live up to four times longer
than treated individuals." (The Betrayal of Health by Dr. Joseph Beasley) The prestigious British medical
journal The Lancet in its summer 1998 issue reported that studies
have shown that lung cancer patients who undergo radiation therapy
have a 20 per cent higher mortality rate than non-radiated ones.
This helps explain the results of a McGill University study which
revealed that most doctors in Ontario who prescribe chemotherapy
for lung cancer patients said they would refuse such treatment
for themselves and members of their family if they
had lung cancer. (CBC interview Feb. 1, 1996). Cancer patients
subjected to both chemotherapy and radiation get secondary tumours
25 times the normal rate (The
Cancer Industry by Ralph Moss, Ph.D.)
3. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) at least
80 per cent of all cancer is environmentally caused and can therefore
be prevented, but prevention is largely ignored by the cancer
establishment in favour of treatment which fails most of the
time, but unlike prevention is very profitable.
No matter how many people shave their heads or run for the cure
or cycle all over the place, cancer will continue to spread in
our midst and claim more and more lives so long as prevention
is ignored and non-conventional treatment and research are stifled,
while carcinogens are allowed to enter into our food, water,
air and soil. What we witness here is a conflict between corporate
wealth and public health. Try to imagine what would happen if
an inexpensive cancer cure were allowed to enter the medical
market. Such a development would have devastating economic consequences
for cancer profiteers who --like TV evangelists-- very effectively
and manipulatively use hope and fear to raise money. They have
fooled the public into believing a cancer cure is just around
the corner and all that is needed is money. It is an empty promise,
but a great fundraising tool.
Millions of people keep donating
to the cancer establishment without having a clue what exactly
happens to the money. Public ignorance about the politics of
cancer is the result of widespread distortion and suppression
of relevant facts by the cancer industry, government and most
mainstream news media. The so-called war against cancer is mostly
a hoax. If you want irrefutable evidence read books such as:
The Politics of Cancer Revisited by Dr. Samuel Epstein. The Betrayal
of our Health by Dr. Joseph Beasly. The Cancer Industry by Ralph
Moss Ph.D. The Cancer Wars by Prof. Robert Proctor.
It is highly doubtful there
is even ONE Canadian or American who has not lost a close relative
or friend to cancer. In the meantime an average of 184 Canadians
and some 1,600 Americans die of cancer every day.
(Mortality figures
provided by the Canadian and American cancer societies). Hence we owe it to all cancer victims
--and indeed to ourselves-- to inform ourselves and others about
the real reasons cancer is spreading in our midst and what we
can do to reverse this deadly trend. It simply makes no sense
to support organizations and their ineffective approaches to
cancer since both are more part of the problem than of the solution.
