Dowey, George

Last Words: "After I gave myself up, Flora McQuarrie [his PEI mistress] heard of the fact [of his marriage] and in a spirit of revenge towards me, she kept back a material part of the evidence, which would have reduced my crime to manslaughter."

Notes: Stabbed John Cullen to death in a jealous, drunken fit. On the first attempt the rope broke. On the second attempt the rope detached from the cleat. The sheriff and constables hauled him back up by the rope and left him hanging for 40 minutes. Last public hanging in PEI.

Notes: Murdered 17 year-old Mary Pickering Tuplin on 28 June 1887. She was shot in the head and thrown into the Southwest River.
