PROVINCIAL INDEX

Clicking on a province will take you to a page that lists all executions in that province in chronological order. Each provincial page is divided into sections of geopolitical eras leading up to entry into Canadian confederation. As a colony or territory evolved so did methods and locations of executions and the crimes which were punishable by death.
DID YOU KNOW?
The earliest known execution in Canada was that of Michel Gaillon in a colony in present-day Quebec. He was hanged in 1541. The last execution in Canada took place on 11 December 1962. Arthur Lucas and Ronald Turpin were hanged together at the Don Jail in Toronto.
