CHILDREN'S PROGRAM

The children attend camp for 3 weeks.  They receive 3 hours of remedial sessions, five days a week, from qualified teachers.  Other activities during the day are designed to reinforce skills taught.  Canoeing and swimming offer chances to improve gross motor skills, arts and crafts promote fine motor skill development and nature watching provides opportunity for the children to practice observation and memory skills.

The children we take to camp are recommended by teachers and the parents.  These children are all average to above average intellectually, however they show discrepancies between potential and achievement and often display deficits in language abilities, as well as their motor skill development is often delayed.  These children can learn, and can succeed in life, if given the help they need.

Types of Activities

Academic Studies: programs are set up for individual academic studies based on the needs of each child from the information we receive from the child’s teacher and parents.  These programs include: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science and Computer Skills.

Crafts, Recreational Sports and Activities: To help develop fine and gross motor skills, which are often slow in developing in children with Learning Disabilities, and to teach sportsmanship and working together as a team with their peers and counsellors.

Games and Sharing of Duties: To learn working Co-operatively with their peer and counsellors and to teach skills needed for more independent living.
