Acceptable Use Policy & Guidelines.IRLP makes use of Amateur Radio which is a federally licensed activity, regulated by Industry Canada.
Users of the IRLP system are therefore expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is a credit to the hobby and demonstrates communications professionalism and courtesy.
The IRLP system is open to all licensed amateur radio operators, however please consult with the respective repeater
owner for any additional operating guidelines.
The following will NOT be tolerated and will result in a suspension of operator privileges and/or criminal prosecution.
RF Jamming or Malicious Interference | Misuse or Careless Disregard for the Equipment
Use of Unacceptable Language (Profanity) | Misconduct or Disrespect to Other Users
INTERFERENCE:
Do not acknowledge transmissions from unlicensed stations or those causing interference. To the extent possible, continue your conversation as if the interfering station is not there. Do not discuss interference on the system.
If you hear interference on the system, contact a control operator (if possible) by telephone. Be prepared to report the time, location, signal strength, and type of antenna. Assistance in locating or identifying interfering stations is welcome.
CONTROL OPERATORS:
Let Control Operators Handle Interference Problems and Repeater Rule Enforcement. There may be actions taking place you are not aware of.
Control Operators have the Authority and Responsibility to alter the Rules of Operation to Meet Temporary Requirements.
GENERAL OPERATION
PAUSE OFTEN and always wait until you hear the courtesy tone (squelch) before transmitting. This will allow other stations to break in to the conversation, allow the repeater to reset, and for the RF links to change directions. If you do not wait for this tone (squelch), the other station(s) may not hear your transmissions.
Please note that Internet Communications may experience longer delays which require longer pauses.
Keep communications short. Generally they should not last longer than 10-15 minutes, particularly during commuting hours.
Use your CALLSIGN rather than "break" to enter an on going conversation. "BREAK" indicates Emergency Traffic or Priority Traffic. Immediately relinquish the frequency when you hear "break."
If someone uses "break" to enter a conversation, do not chastise them. In some areas it is acceptable to use "break" to enter a conversation, but NOT in Canada, and NOT on the Calgary IRLP system.
Communications traffic is to be handled in the following order.
1. Emergency Traffic
2. Priority Traffic
3. System Testing and Maintenance
4. Public service and Scheduled Nets
5. General Use
