Andrew Thomson and Betsey Henderson were married at Otonabee Township. on the 2nd day of February in the year 1866, in the presence of William Miller and Susan Hendersen by the Rev. Francis Andrews of the Presbyterian Church. They met while aboard the "sailboat" coming from Scotland to Canada. The boat had just three families aboard.

Their beautiful flower beds were a joy to view, and Harry shared his horticultural talents with many, gaining him a wide circle of friends." Obituary - Shellbrook Chronicle
There passed away in the Prince Albert Hospital on Nov. 3rd (1946), Mrs. Tom Rusk formaly Mary Thomson, daughter of the late Andrew and Mrs. Thomson of Thornbury, Ontario; in her 68th year. Death was due to a fall on the pavement as she was returning from church services. She suffered a cracked hip bone, the accident occured on October 23rd.
She and her husband have been a resident of the Rayside district in the town of Shellbrook, Sk. She leaves to mourn her passing: her husband, five sons and one daughter, viz, George of Maple Creek, Sk., Donald at Welland, Ont., Andrew at home, Archie of Saskatoon, Sk., and Neil serving overseas, and Mrs. Leonard Chapman (Jean); also four brothers and three sisters, viz, David of rayside, Sk., John and Herman of New Westminster, B.C., George of Vancouver, B.C., Mrs. S. McGowan of Niagara Falls, Mrs Wood and Mrs. Zinn of Irving, N.Y.. A sister, Mrs. Hunter, passed away in June 1945.
Funeral services were held from Knox United Church on Tuesday November 6th with Rev. D. Rice officiating. The church was full of sympathizing friends which spoke of the high esteem in which Mrs. Rusk was held. The church was banked with flowers. Internment was made in the Shellbrook Cemetary and flowers were many.
