BWS Annual Writers' Competition The Burnaby Writers' Society Annual Competition, premiered in 1969. It has encompassed a wide variety of genres including short fiction, poetry, journalism, and speculative. Past themes have included "Dreams and Visions," "Love Among the Ruins," "Green," and "Things Lost, Things Found." Past judges include: Crawford Kilian, Pat Lowther, Brian Brett, Allan Safarik, Elizabeth Gourlay, Lionel Kearns, David Zieroth, Jean Mallinson, and Susan McCaslin. Our winners include such well known names as: Linda Rogers, Richard Thompson, Susan McCaslin, Genni Gunn, Sue Nevill and Billie Livingston. The competition is open to all residents of British Columbia and the Westcoast US. The annual deadline is May 31, and categories vary. A total of $350 in prize money is awarded annually. Complete rules may be obtained after March 1st of each year by sending a stamped self-addressed envelope to Burnaby Writers' Society,6584 Deer Lake Avenue, Burnaby BC, V5G 3T7. Contest results will be made available here each September. |
