About the Bears
Bryn Mawr bears are original designs from Patricia 's own
patterns, influenced by the earliest Teddy Bears on record, circa 1900.
Patricia makes every bear and piece of clothing entirely by herself except for the special joints made by her husband - a custom spinning wheel maker.
They are designed as collectibles, but are also strong enough for use as active playmates and range in height from 5 to 24 inches.
Every Bryn Mawr Bear is manufactured of high quality mohair or alpaca fabric, with suede leather paws and pads, with fully rotating and reinforced head, shoulder and hip joints and a hand embroidered nose. Each Bear has a Canadian coin of the Bear's birth year inside his tummy!
The fabrics are manufactured in England and Germany and imported by Patricia exclusively for her Bears.
The glass eyes are of superior quality, imported from Germany and colour matched to the Bear's fabric.
Bryn Mawr Bears are individually made. Each one is unique.
They have varying expressions.
Designer clothes such as antique lace, hand knit sweaters, jackets and hats are created to
suit the personality of each Bear.
Of course some Bryn Mawr Bears prefer to be "au naturel".
All the Bears made in given year have names starting with the same letter - i.e. the first year was 'A', the second year was 'B', etc. Some collectors have Bears from each year!
In 2006 the Bear names start with 'O'.
Of course, some Bears can have special names by request.
Bears, for special occasions, can be created to customer selected sizes and colours from an extensive inventory of mohair fabrics. Also choice of clothing if required for cold climate Bears.
Every Bryn Mawr Bear is accompanied by a card with a name and brief personality description and wears a woven label "Bryn Mawr Bears - made in Canada".
Remember - A day without a Teddy-bear hug is like a day without sunshine.
