[David Usher Live in Kingston]

USHER-ED IN

David Usher is a true Canadian heartthrob whose rock god status has spread throughout the globe.

And the spotlight focused on Usher, who first gained attention for his role as the lead singer of Moist, is only getting brighter. That’s because he’s released another solo album titled Hallucinations.

But while Usher is aware of the buzz that surrounds him, he tries not to get too caught up with the notion of success. "If you don’t stay focused on the music part of it, it can become about the wrong things," he says. "So I definitely try to stay focused on the music and the shows."

Nevertheless, the desire to make it in the U.S. is a bug that has bitten many Canadian musicians. But Usher insists he isn’t obsessed with the desire to conquer our neighbours. "If there’s a big push to go there and it feels right, I would do it," he says. "If not, I would rather focus on other places."

And those other places he enjoys performing for include countries that sit far, far away from our shores. He’s had huge popularity in Thailand, while his song Black Black Heart was a hit in Greece.

For a musician like Usher, it’s fantastic to know that his sound is being heard and accepted, "to feel like the music is getting places."
