DAVID USHER PREPS NEW ALBUM, SHOOTS VIDEO IN TORONTO

What’s been going on with David Usher? Since the release of his Morning Orbit album back in 2001, fans have been anxiously awaiting something new from the Moist singer, and finally Usher has a new album on the way. The new, as-yet-untitled, album is tentatively slated to in stores on September 9. We caught up with Usher at the video shoot for the disc’s first single to ask him a few questions about the new material.

To start, Usher explains the premise behind the video for the first single, Time Of Our Lives. "The video is supposed to be in some ways representative of the song," he says. "It’s basically a slice of life video, because, that in some way, is what the song is about. But I didn’t want it to be too specific that it brands the song with the video."

In addition to shooting the new video, Usher has been busy putting the finishing touches on the new disc. "The record is very much an extension of what the band was doing live; there is much more of a live element to the playing," he says of the new album. "Some of the stuff is a lot more ambient, but then some of it has a lot more playing - like live band playing - on it as well. So I’ve tried to mix things up a little bit more, take some of the things I got live from the last two years and incorporate them into the studio with what I do with loops and samples."

And Usher would have a lot of live material to pull inspiration from, considering the tour to support Morning Orbit was about 150 shows long and took him all over the world. Usher ended up with some new and exotic fave locales from the tour run. "I love going to Bangkok, to Thailand, because my family is all there. And it’s just great for the band - we all have a great time. We get to hang out and eat great food."
