USHERING IN THE FUTURE Author: Kieran Grant Despite the absence of Moist from the Can-rock radar lo these past 18 months, there's little doubt that the group's fans have taken comfort in the emergence of frontman and sometime solo artist David Usher. Having recently released his second solo effort, Morning Orbit, Usher is now nearing the end of his first-ever solo tour. The 45-date cross-Canada tour brings the singer to the Phoenix tonight. "There's no real end to it, because after this we go overseas," says Usher, who's planning upcoming shows in Germany and Thailand, where Moist enjoys a large following. "There's a real fresh energy going on with this." "Moist is basically on an indefinite hiatus. We're a close group of friends but we've been in the band for nine years and we're now doing other things to suss out what we want to do." Usher says he's enjoyed a more natural approach to playing on the road, removing much of the electronic and sample-based aspects of Morning Orbit. "I essentially stripped out all the loops and built everything from scratch just using the people in the band," he says. "It's quite exciting to watch people respond to it. The songs are very different from the record but the interpretations seems to work for people." << Previous Article   Articles Main   Next Article >> |
