Design Style Choice

There are many different bridge styles, each with their advantages and disadvantages.  Choosing the correct style will depend a great deal on what human needs are to be met by it, the reasons for its construction, the construction site that it will be built at the environment impact that must be minimized.  Sometimes aesthetics will be the most important issue; other times the designer needs to make sure that the bridge will be affordable to the people paying for it.

Bridge designs are often grouped into the following categories:

- Arch - Moving
- Beam - Suspension
- Cable-Stayed - Truss
