Shear & Shear Strength

Help > Shear & Shear Strength

Shearing occurs when the material is being pressed in opposite but different directions at the same time.  The best example of this is the cutting of a piece of paper with scissors.

The ability of the object to withstands being ripped apart from shearing forces is its shear strength.
