2004 Club Event Rides
June 27 2004 - Mount Baker
It could not have been a better day to do 20 Km up a mountain after riding 50 kms of undulating roads! Thirteen riders started at 2nd Avenue and the Sumas Border crossing. There
were some anxious riders (who have not done this ride before), but the group promised to ride together, and once again, the group stayed as a pack until the ascent to Mount Baker.
Gavin, Henry, Chris and John (From Kitsilano - BCMCA) led the climb and averaged 18 Km/hour - 19 Km/hour towards the top. The rest of the group scattered down the mountain on their own pace. The descent was a bit sketchy due to some road work all the way from the bottom of the climb to the final look-out point.
A well-deserved lunch at 1:30 PM, then the group headed back soon after. Thanks to those who came, and to those who missed the ride, we will try and plan another Mount Baker in September.
June 20 2004 - Stave Lake, Fathers Day Ride Thanks to those who braved the 30+ Heat and logged in over 130 Km at over 29 Km/hour. It was a scorcher! We did have a minor mishap during a routine paceline in Mission. Luckily no one was seriously hurt, except for some scratched bar tape.
All 11 riders rode in a tight pack along Dewdney Trunk Road, the hills around Stave Lake split the group temporarily, but overall a tight-knit group ride. Today's ride hopefully gave everyone a good idea of how to conserve energy on a long and hot ride!
