If you make the segment rings slightly oversize it makes the alignment during glue ups easier.
I use a disposable tenon on most of my projects to make sure I have a good grip on the wood.
Each layer is mounted in the ring press shown earlier and I stop at about the half way mark and trim out the inside of the bowl to make the job easier than working through the finished neck hole. It's critical to keep the rings all parallel with each other.
