I cut a 2" tenon in one end with a forstner/sawtooth bit and mounted the piece with the tailstock brought in to stabilize the wood while I cored out the inside.
I left a bit of the branch on the side of the bark for the bird door so the piece wanted to run a bit eccentric.
I am running this piece at about 8-900 rpm. The lathe with tell you where the "sweet" spot is.
