SEVEN
MOONS LIVE
DVD
REVIEW
My
thanks to Jacob Morrison-Wood at weinerworld
for the dvd
and the opportunity
to do a give-away contest.

I have to say that after watching the dvd I enjoy the cd much more than
I originally did...... watching Robin work live continues to amaze me every
time.
After the release of "Seven Moons" when Robin announced he was going to
be doing a number of concert dates with Jack Bruce my first thought was
to wonder what songs they would play? Even though the two had combined
on the release two albums in the 80's they had never played to an audience
together. Having recently released their latest collaboration there was
lots of material to draw on past and present.
To
be honest I never thought I would see Robin Trower playing a show with
Jack and especially doing old Cream songs. When I got the set list for
the shows this was the first thing that intrigued me. Robin Trower doing
"Sunshine Of Your Love" alone would be worth the price of admission for
me. How would he play it, especially given the fact that it is such a well
known Bruce / Clapton piece and he was doing it with Jack Bruce?
Also
surprising was only one song from the early years (Carmen, from the 1981
album B.L.T).
While
I liked the Seven Moons release, it took me a while to get into it. After
listening to it a few times though I realized that it was that feeling
of the 70's I get from it. And yet it was just another facet of Robins
writing and playing skills. Something new again from Mr. Trower. After
watching the DVD though I really started to enjoy it more.
Watching
Robin and Jack play is totally enjoyable. Two legends, basically unfamiliar
with each other in a live setting watching and enjoying each others talents
as they found their way through the songs. Some uncertain moments and a
bits of ad-lib made it a very special show for me. Unpolished perfection
from two of music's greats.
Throughout
the show Jack was very talkative and you could see he was so happy to be
there, on stage, and performing with Robin and Gary.
Gary
Husband is an excellent drummer. Very aggressive throughout the set, subtle
when required and a monster when called upon. For me personally, I always
find drummers who are guitarists or keyboard players (of which Gary is
one of the best) play just a bit different from regular percussionists.
Lots
of back and forth glances during the show made it seem very relaxed and
created a warm friendly atmosphere on stage.
Great
camera work throughout, giving lots of angles and capturing the interaction
between the band again made it enjoyable. Also lots of fret board shots
which I enjoyed.
All
I can say is that this is an amazing piece of history and I am sure that
all the Jack Bruce fans who went to see Jack are now also fans of Robin
Trower. Do not miss picking this DVD up.

Set list :
Seven Moons - The first song seemed to be a very nervous start for the band. Still getting used to playing together in front of an audience with something fairly fresh to all on stage. However about half way through the song it became apparent that the comfort level was happening and a sense of comfort seemed to come out.
Lives Of Clay
Distant
Places Of The Heart - I loved the ending when
Robin ends on
a single note as the camera shows Jack feeling for the end
and then the two artists smiling at each other when it ended.
Sunshine
Of Your Love - While staying within the basic
structure of
the song Robin played it his way. There were no comparisons
to think about because there was no doubt that Robin was
showing his interpretation of the song. Amazing to see this
song done by him.
Carmen
- The only song from early years. Thought they did a great
job and Jacks vocals were pure Jack
She's
Not The One - Love this song and live just
became that
much better which Robin seems to do best.
