Buddy is a fisherman who is forced to find other work when the industry takes a turn for the worse. The bank is after him for an outstanding loan on his boat; without steady work, Buddy is in dire straits. Although his character appears to be somewhat surly and difficult, Hugh feels he understands where Buddy is coming from. "Buddy has placed his loyalty with Len Hubbard (Joseph Zeigler) who has given him employment when he needs it," he says. "He doesn't think he should have to take orders from outsiders Katherine (Rebecca Jenkins) and Nick (Geraint Wyn Davies) when they take over the boatyard." Born and raised in Antigonish, Hugh worked at various jobs before falling in love with acting. He has done extensive stage work, performing in theatres across Canada, including the Royal Alex, Centaur Theatre, The Citadel Theatre, The Grand Theatre and Festival Antigonish. Most recently, he played Neil Currie in Wendy Lill's stage adaptation of The Glace Bay Miner's Museum for Ship's Company Theatre in Parrsboro, Eastern Front Theatre and Neptune Theatre in Halifax, Centaur Theatre in Montreal and Manitoba Theatre Centre in Winnipeg. The play -- based on the same story as the award winning film, Margaret's Museum -- also toured throughout Nova Scotia to full houses and standing ovations. Hugh's Toronto-based career includes many appearances in film and television, including Mistral for HBO, Dan Jansen Story, for ABC, Fighting Back: The Nancy Conn Story for CBS, the Gemini Award-winning MOW Net Worth, and The Paris Crew (a Heritage Half Hour). He also makes an appearance in the '97 - '98 season of the hit series, Due South. Delighted to be working in his home province, Hugh is very enthusiastic about Black Harbour. "Nova Scotia has many stories to tell. Black Harbour is doing a great job portraying what life is really like in this part of the world." |
