Ecole St. Cecilia School, 610 Agate Crescent S.E.Calgary, (just west on Southland Dr past Blackfoot Tr.) is hosting our 4th bicycle Re-cycle and Exchange Event. All families are encouraged to donate to the school any bikes or parts that they have out-grown and have the opportunity to get another bike for the upcoming summer that will fit better. Those donating a working bike will receive a $10.00 voucher (per bike) that can be exchanged towards a different bike. All donated bikes will be sold on Saturday April 20 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm at the cost of $20.00 (maximum one voucher per bike). This year we are also opening up our collections to include used bike parts. These parts as well as any working that don't find a new home at our event will be passed along to other organizations that are in need of them. This is a great way to make some space in the garage or shed and know that you have helped your friends and community by reducing the need to purchase a new bike when your family has one that is no longer needed. Also, encouraging the reuse of our bicycles, helps ensure that kids have easy access to healthy activities. Bicycles and parts that do not find a home during our event will be donated to other organizations or recycled. We are accepting all bikes from tricycles to adult bikes. Bike drop off will be accepted Thursday April 18 and Friday April 19 from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm each day. Last year we had 272 bikes find new homes. Our goal for 2013 is 300 bikes. This year, thanks to the growing popularity and demand, we are also inviting groups that we support through our donations of the bikes, as well as those that support us in our cause to exchange bikes, to set up at the event for information purposes. If your association or group is interested in taking part, please contact Harry. The primary purpose for our event is not fundraising. We do sell the bikes that have been donated to the school but the purpose is to cover the cost of putting on the event. We need to cover the cost of all of our road signs, advertisements, posters and the cost of having a custodian available for the event. Our goal is not to raise funds but to be able to make this type of event self sustaining. All of the parents, kids and teachers involved are volunteers and we are developing an event that can hopefully be copied by others. All remaining bikes in the last 3 years were donated to organizations like Bikes for Humanity, Trikes for Tykes( Kiwanis Group), Good Life Bikes. We have had such demand from the other groups that we have opened up the event to include non working bikes and parts to work as a parts drive for the other organizations. That being said any funds that are remaining do go to the school Council, as well as one third to Bicycles for Humanity. Thank you to all of the groups, associations and retailers that helped our 2012 RE-cycle Exchange Event become such a great success. Thanks also to all the students, teachers, individuals, families and community members that participated. For more information please contact: Harry at bikeXchange@shaw.ca
