Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Cowichan
Valley is part of the national
Big Brothers Big Sisters
of Canada network and has been helping matching children between the ages of 6 and 16
with positive role models since 1971. Our adult volunteers spend
anywhere from 1 to 5 hours per week with their "Littles" for a period of
at least one year. Many matches last much longer, and the benefits of
one interested adult's friendship lasts an entire lifetime.
Children participating in our programs:
- Are less likely to begin using drugs.
- Are less likely to skip school.
- Are more likely to pursue
post-secondary education.
- Have more confidence and self-esteem.
- Have more positive relationships with
their peers and with their families.
Our success depends on the support of the
community, and you can help Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Cowichan
Valley in many different ways:
- Volunteer as a "Big" or as a member of
our board.
- Provide a financial contribution to
help us continue and improve our service to local children.
- Be a community partner by offering
discount opportunities for Bigs and Littles at your business.
