QUOTE:  "There is more at work here than you are aware of. Dark forces are aligning."
"Once you start playing God, where do you stop?"

BACKGROUND:

INTERVIEW. The man who calls himself Templar approached the group in the midst of the March Crisis dropping the name of Devon Moon to gain an audience. Warning of supernatural forces at work, he sought to take possession of the black blade, Bane.

Templar claims (in a Scottish brogue) to have been a member of the Jesuit order, and occasionally wears the collar and garb of a Catholic priest, though he has a pretty cynical attitude about that organization and especially the Pope. Has also claimed an acquaintance with the Silver Sorcerer.

During the end of the business in the Valley of the Blessed, Templar betrayed a considerable hubris, and demanded (and received) the right to argue with the Goddess Athena on a more-or-less equal basis. While confusing, those who witnessed this encounter could glean the information that (a) he claimed the mystical stewardship of a significant portion of the world, (b) he was recognized as belonging to some obscure, yet powerful, mystic organization, and (c) claimed the backing of "the Source" behind his powers. Templar hasn't been very forthcoming with more information about this business.

When bit by the daemonic entity known as Frostbite during that creature's incursion into our plane, Templar briefly became a Frost Zombie before being healed of that condition by Hydro. The healed scar from that wound continues to pain him whenever the temperature drops. Also bears scars from having been impaled on a harpoon.

Despite an avowed belief in the sanctity of human life, the use of Templar's powers have caused the inadvertant or deliberate deaths of a number of exotic villains, as well as the tarnished hero Captain Thunder. Of late Templar has been offtimes moody and wracked by guilt for these actions, and has been observed to be hitting the bottle more than his teammates believe that he should.

MOTIVATION:

Responsibility of Power.

TACTICS:

When forced into a direct confrontation, Templar can unload with a variety of mystical or magical effects. He prefers to use non-lethal means - at least against human opponents - but can foil an opponent with a variety of mental entangles, flash attacks, etc. He also can provide assistance to comrades in a battle by means of metaphysical defense, healing, and dispellings. Slow and not very agile, he yet remains a suprisingly tough person to put down.

KNOWN STRENGTHS:

His magick pool is capable of a vast variety of effects, but he seems to focus on mental entangles, dominations and sleep spells.

KNOWN WEAKNESSES:

Many of his attacks are good only against a mystical opponent. Low DV. No resistant defences, and remainder reliant on (oft-lost) focii.

OFFENSIVE POWERS:

Mystic blast, mental blasts/entangles/flashes.

DEFENSIVE POWERS:

Forcefield (40 pts).

NON-COMBAT POWERS:

Priestly powers. Well-educated.

FOCII/EQUIPMENT:

Bell, book and candle. Occult kit. Protective amulets (which seem to be lost or stolen a disproportionate amount of the time).

LOCOMOTION:

Teleportation (useable on others). Levitation.

KotC ENCOUNTERS:

- approached the Knights in the midst of the March Crisis. After having trouble earning the trust of Phoenix, he accompanied them on the raid of the impregnable lair of the Justice Machine.

- took a very active role in the research which led the group to the South American lair of the Justice Machine, and participated wholeheartedly in both the battle that ensued and its aftermath.

- gradually take a more vocal role in the decision-making for the group (prodding them into pursuing Wraith, for example), although he always disavowed any open interest in leading the group. Argued a lot with Phoenix and DeSalvo over matters of ethics and politics.

KotC COMMENTS:

- Phoenix: "I killed my own father, padre. I got no trouble killing you."
- Sub-Zero: "Deo-o-graci-aasssssss "
- US Agent: "I'm a little teapot... short and stout... when I catch you... I'll rip your lungs out!"
- Lady Liberty: "No-one has the right to mess with my free will!"
- PFC Ripley: "I hate mentalists...!"
